International Women’s Day 2022 – Community Spotlight on RED Ratchet

CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY. COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT ON RED RATCHET.

In honor of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, Insomniac Games is celebrating the women in our community who contribute to our many passionate fandoms online – including the artists, virtual photographers, and superfans who express their love of our games in their unique ways. Their creativity and passion fuels us and serves as a reminder of the positive impact our games have on people’s lives.

Women are an important part of the community we’ve built at Insomniac Games – both in and out of our offices. At our studio, we value diversity of thought, inclusion, and representation and are actively hiring women to fill roles within our teams. In our fan communities, women highlight the importance of representation, so we want to introduce you to some of those members starting today and all throughout March.

Today, we’re spotlighting RED Ratchet, a Ratchet & Clank superfan and content creator. You might’ve come across her in threads on Twitter or Reddit discussing all-things Ratchet & Clank, sharing content on Instagram, or making videos on YouTube about various community topics.

So, let’s meet RED!

Insomniac Games: Hey, Red! Based on your username, I think it’s safe to assume you’re a Ratchet & Clank fan. Can you tell me what you enjoy most about the franchise? What keeps you coming back?

REDRatchet: Hey! Thanks so much for having me here! Yes! I absolutely adore the characters and creativity that each new game has, it’s incredibly fun seeing what new and wacky weapons, gadgets and planets are introduced in the series! I always come back for the insanely fun gameplay and emotional connection to our duo!

IG: You have an impressive collection of Ratchet & Clank merch – some of which you’ve shared on your YouTube channel. How long have you been collecting, and does anything stand out as your favorite?

RED: I first started getting merch probably back in 2010/2011? It wasn’t really until around the movie and PS4 game in 2016 where it got a lot more serious. My personal favorite item would have to be the Ratchet & Clank plushies made for All 4 One, they have a lot of sentimental value to me!

IG: You shared some of your fan art on social media recently, too. It’s incredible stuff. How long have you been drawing Ratchet? Do you have any pieces of fan art you’re proud of?

RED: Thank you! I have been drawing Ratchet (and Clank) for a very long time, the earliest was when I was a toddler probably??!! (judging from this art hahaha)  I’m currently majoring in film/animation so it’s been a long process to where I am now! Here are a couple sketches that I really like! (First photo is of my oldest drawing)

IG: It’s always a great to see how you express love for the Ratchet & Clank series alongside other fans. What do you enjoy about being in the community?

RED: I enjoy seeing so many other people being just as passionate about this series as me! It sort of feels like home, there are lots of fans who are really nice and extremely talented! It’s also fun discussing lore and characters together or ranking favorite games/weapons in the series!

IG: Speaking of favorites, it wouldn’t be a proper interview without asking about yours, right? So, tell me: what’s your favorite Ratchet & Clank game and why?

RED: Hahaha yes! My favorite Ratchet & Clank game would have to be the original released back in 2002, it’s one of the first video games I ever played and there’s still something really charming and unique about it. (A close second would be A Crack in Time!).

IG: Do you have a favorite weapon from the series?

RED: I have always really liked the Tesla Claw, it has such a crazy design and is super fun to use!

IG: How about a favorite quote?

“Remember, the universe has a wonderful sense of humor! The trick is, learning how to take a joke.”

– Orvus

IG: What about any favorite moments?

RED: When Ratchet & Clank hug to say goodbye in ACiT.

IG: Since we’re celebrating International Women’s Day, do you have any favorite women in the Ratchet & Clank universe and why?

Yeah! I love all of them! I do have a soft spot for Talwyn Apogee, I think she’s a very underrated but extremely fun character. I think it’s awesome how she helps support both Ratchet & Clank in times of distress and she’s strong as an individual too! Also she has a cool design!

IG: Excellent! Well, thanks for chatting with us, RED! It’s always a pleasure to nerd out with you about Ratchet & Clank. If people wanted to geek out along with you, where can they find you on social media?

RED: Thank you too! This was incredibly fun! I’d say it’s definitely easiest to find me on my Twitter (@REDRatchet1) or Instagram (@lombax.and.robot / @red.ratchet) but YouTube works too! (RED Ratchet) Again, thanks for interviewing me!
